The North Tamar region offers a wide variety of fantastic fishing charters in Tasmanian with the best fishing spots, including beach, ocean, estuary and freshwater fishing. The Tamar River / kanamaluka itself has a variety of fish species, including bream, flathead, snapper, trevally, sharks, rays, salmon, whiting, mullet amongst many others. From a boat you can catch wrasse, barracouta, elephant fish, mackerel, mullet, garfish, King George whiting, longfin pike, snapper and gummy shark (outside the Shark Refuge Area).

And don't let daylight determine your fishing hours - at night-time, the beacon lights provide perfect spots to go jigging for arrow squid, calamari, and cuttlefish. During the warmer summer months, Mako sharks provide excellent offshore game fishing. Curries River Dam, located about 5km south of George Town offers a freshwater alternative, with the dam being regularly stocked with populations of both brown and rainbow trout which. They are well fed, have bright orange flesh, and make for excellent eating.
